Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems from Germany-based provider SAP can enable a company to attain a common set of data that is applicable throughout the corporation, it has been claimed.

In an article for Information Week, Andrew Conry-Murray noted the software is being deployed by the pharmaceutical organisation Merck.

The drugmaker announced it is rolling out an ERP system from SAP in an attempt to yield improved results for the firm's business analytics.

J Chris Scalet, chief information officer and vice-president at Merck, said the implementation will provide the organisation with a "single version of the truth" that stretches across the whole company.

Mr Conry-Murray noted the business has also opted for server and storage virtualisation in a bid to reduce provision capacity time.

Writing recently for Computing.co.uk, Dawinderpal Sahota observed the sports manufacturer Unicorn Products has adopted SAP software to help speed up its IT processes and improve its use of material requirement planning.
