SAP ERP software users ‘increasingly accepting the cloud’

The willingness of those using enterprise resource planning (ERP) software from SAP to add cloud-based solutions to their business set-up is increasing.

A survey of the manufacturer's members found that there has been a "definitive" move towards the cloud in recent times.

Craig Dale, chief executive of the UK and Ireland SAP User Group, said this is largely the result of increased understanding of the platform.

"This is quite a marked increase on last year. We wouldn't expect our members to jump on the cloud bandwagon – they're mostly on-premise customers. So it's really good," he stated.

However, there are some obstacles to overcome before the cloud becomes an option for all ERP users.

Some 59 per cent of respondents said they still do not know how to upgrade their solutions, while 58 per cent believe there is a lack of clarity.

The International Data Corporation recently predicted that the rise of the cloud will fuel IT spending in the UK in the future.
