SAP ‘favoured by SMEs’

Software from enterprise resource planning provider SAP is proving popular among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it has been suggested.

In an interview with TMC's chief executive officer Rich Terani, Jeff Stiles - senior vice-president for SME volume and ecosystem marketing for SAP - revealed three-quarters of the Germany-based outfit's customers are smaller companies.

The industry figure noted 90 per cent of these firms are also in the lower mid-market.

Mr Stiles explained the technology is favoured by SMEs because buying expectations have started to change.

"They need affordable products that are fast in time to value - they can't afford a nine-month implementation, they're looking for weeks," he observed.

The expert added it is one of the "best-kept secrets" that the majority of SAP's customers are of SME status.

Bill McDermott, co-chief executive at the IT giant, recently claimed the organisation is focussing on its core business and said he was optimistic about its future growth.
