Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems provider SAP is to focus on its core business areas, it has been suggested.

Bill McDermott, co-chief executive officer at the firm - which provides ERP systems such as the small and medium-sized enterprise-specific application SAP Business One - told CNBC the company has no plans for any hardware company acquisitions in the near future, Bloomberg reports.

The industry figure noted: "By staying true to our core, we build a huge ecosystem around us."

Mr McDermott revealed the organisation - described by the source as the biggest maker of business management software in the world - is remaining optimistic in regards to its earnings forecast.

One area that is currently offering "unbelievable" growth opportunities is China, he added.

Information Week recently noted ERP systems from SAP can help a company control operations, including financial accounting, payroll and human resources, throughout a number of its business practices.
