Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems provider SAP is one of the main players in the world of information and communication technology (ICT), it has been suggested.

The comment came from Andrew Waititu, the new general manager for East Africa at SAP - which provides ERP systems such as the small and medium-sized enterprise-specific SAP Business One model - on his appointment to the role.

Mr Waititu said he will aim to build on the Germany-based company's expansion throughout the world.

The industry figure stated he is "thrilled to have the opportunity to work with SAP - one of the ICT powerhouses on the continent".

Mr Waititu's appointment will help SAP increase its progress on an international level by building on its foundations in Africa, added managing director of SAP Africa Pfungwa Serima.

IT was recently revealed Walmart has opted to implement SAP software in a bid to better control its financial reporting processes.
