SAP slashes emissions via remote access technology

Business software manufacturer SAP has utilised remote access technology as part of efforts to slash its corporate emissions.

The company, which is responsible for enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions such as SAP Business One, was able to reduce its greenhouse gas production by four per cent last year, reports Climate Biz.

It comes after a concerted campaign to reduce unnecessary business travel, with teleconferencing being used so executives can avoid having to travel by air between its different bases worldwide.

This will help SAP to meet its goal of returning to 2000's emission levels by 2020.

Company spokesman Evan Welsh explained: "It shows we're making a concerted effort as a company to carpool and commute smarter, whether it's taking the train, biking to work, or working from home."

Earlier this month, UK employment relations body Acas advised that home working can help to make staff more satisfied with the jobs and thereby increase their productivity.
