Secure access ‘should be a key priority for remote working’

Companies which are looking to enable their staff to work remotely have been reminded of the need to prioritise the implementation of secure access technology.

Andy McFarlane of Vodafone Global Enterprise told Infosecurity magazine that flexible remote access allowances are increasingly being seen as the "key to unlocking efficiency benefits".

However, he stated that these investments must also be accompanied by an appropriate commitment to security, in order to ensure that important corporate data is not compromised if mobile devices are lost, stolen or misused.

Mr McFarlane states that secure access technology should therefore be installed on both the network and the devices in question before business applications are used.

"In an increasingly flexible working environment, mobility should sit at the very heart of good security practice," he explained.

This issue is likely to become more important in the coming months after a poll conducted by Citrix recently revealed that more than half of workers operate outside the office for at least one or two days a week.
