One of the many benefits a switch to virtual software can bring is added security, it has been suggested.
Writing for Help Net Security, Vedran Miletic noted virtualisation allows the execution of software in an environment that is apart from other underlying hardware resources.
The expert explained it therefore allows the environment for one application to separate from that of another, regardless of whether or not they run on the same physical server.
He observed this can be very advantageous for security purposes, "since the exploitation of a security hole in one application will not cause the compromise of any other".
Mr Miletic was describing the software as part of a review of the book Virtualisation for Security, which was authored by John Hoopes.
In a recent article for Processor, Chris MacKinnon claimed virtualisation has changed the face of today's data centre as it results in less hardware and increased IT efficiency.
