Server and storage virtualisation is becoming increasingly popular among chief information officers (CIOs), it has been suggested.
In an interview with Ann All of IT Business Edge, Gartner vice-president and analyst James Browning claimed companies had reported early successes with the platforms.
The reporter noted the industry expert had told her firms were “encountering fewer technical hurdles than expected and winning raves from CFOs (chief financial officers) for saving their companies money”.
Long and frustrating exercises in gathering requirements can be alleviated through the software as well, which is unlike enterprise applications used by business people, Mr Browning explained.
Moreover, he added desktop virtualisation is also becoming more broadly adopted, as 32 per cent of firms surveyed by Gartner are either testing or piloting the software.
Virtual Strategy Magazine recently highlighted a decrease in datacentre complexity as one of the main benefits associated with storage virtualisation, as well as server deployment time reduction.
