Server virtualisation ‘a fundamental part of the data centre’

Category: Virtualisation

Server virtualisation has become a fundamental part of the data centre in recent times, it has been suggested.

In an article on Network World, Paul Venezia argued only a few technologies have become so central in such a short space of time.

The industry expert noted the basic value proposition of the software - which includes systems such as Citrix XenServer - is easy to grasp.

He explained: "When you run many logical servers on a single physical server, you get a lot more out of your hardware, so you can invest in fewer physical servers."

It is almost akin to "found money", Mr Venezia observed.

He added a move to virtualisation can result in less cooling to pay for and lower power consumption.

In a recent article for Ostatic.com, Sam Dean urged companies to invest in virtual software as the switch would enable them to modernise their practices while also bolstering their operations.
