Server virtualisation can help companies to boost their cost-efficiencies by reducing energy waste, one specialist has suggested.
Managing director of IT analyst Enterprise Strategy Group Steve O’Donnell said that four out of five firms are now using some form of virtualisation to make their companies run more smoothly, Net Media Europe reports.
He remarked: "Recognising that having loads of servers running at five percent utilisation is a waste, virtualisation has become a key driver for energy efficiency."
According to Net Media Europe, reports have claimed that virtualisation technologies can lead to annual savings of £2,500 per server and £78 per desktop.
Server virtualisation is attractive to organisations because of this ability to drastically lower costs, the news provider stated, adding that VMware is currently the most successful vendor of these softwares.
President and chief executive officer of Citrix Mark Templeton was recently reported by Channel Web as saying that virtualisation is rapidly altering the on-demand service landscape.
