Server virtualisation can lead to a number of benefits for organisations, one expert has suggested.
In an article for the Register, Tony Lock of Freeform Dynamics stated that platforms of this kind are widely associated with cost-efficiencies and maximising the utility of available resources.
According to Mr Lock, companies that use the software can also "recover from server failures more rapidly than previously achievable without spending a fortune".
And enhanced service levels due to wider availability is an important function as well, he added, as virtual machines can be moved dynamically around a physical server.
Looking ahead, it is likely that virtualisation will be increasingly used in conjunction with collaboration tools and email systems, so that its benefits can be experienced in these areas too, the specialist predicted.
Industry commentator Neil Barton recently explained that server virtualisation software, such as Citrix XenServer, will become much more popular throughout this year.
