Companies have been advised they will enjoy numerous benefits from server virtualisation solutions, should they be in a position to deploy and operate them correctly.
Kenneth van Surksum, chief editor of news site Virtualization.info, explained there are "several" advantages to investing in the technology.
However, it will only provide the maximum number of benefits if it is run in the best way, which can require the services of "skilled administrators".
"Companies should realise that introducing virtualisation also introduces some new management challenges, which they should address before starting with these technologies," Mr Van Surksum stated.
He also recommended splashing out on more than one solution, as this means that a set-up will still operate even if one component fails.
Leading server virtualisation equipment provider VMware this month revealed it had installed solutions at Oak Hill school in Ohio, US, which immediately enjoyed higher productivity and reduced consumption of resources.
