Server virtualisation ‘is the efficient option’

Companies have been advised that should they wish to achieve ultimate efficiency, server virtualisation may have to be considered a must.

Alan Beresford, managing director of EcoCooling.org, explained the technology is clean and efficient and will have an effect on results.

He noted there are "lots of people" now taking a closer look at virtualisation, with one advantage of it said to be the fact that less equipment is required to maintain operations.

"So why have half a dozen one-amp racks churning away, when you might get away with one full of efficient, high-capacity, modern equipment which is virtualised?" Mr Beresford asked.

InformationWeek recently reported a poll by the International Data Corporation had found that almost 40 per cent of chief information officers are targeting virtualisation as a priority in 2012, with financial savings said to be one of the major attractions.

Many also expressed an interest in investing in the cloud over the next 12 months.
