Server virtualisation ‘will increase this year’

5th January

Category: Virtualisation

Server virtualisation software such as Citrix XenServer could become more prevalent this year, as the solutions have been predicted to be adopted more widely.

Industry expert Neil Barton explained that firms have in some cases been slow to implement the technology because they lack the necessary skills.

But he predicted that more companies will be looking towards server virtualisation in 2010.

"This will allow systems to become both leaner and more resilient, without breaking the bank or requiring a significant investment in time or training from the in-house team," Mr Barton remarked.

He added that with a number of servers employed across a virtual platform, consolidation offers advantages in terms of flexibility as well as cost.

It comes after VMWare found that 71 per cent of firms that have implemented virtualisation techniques have reduced the amount of time spent on routine administrative tasks, with a similar numbing stating that flexibility has been boosted.
