The benefits of remote working have been highlighted by Severn Trent Water, as the firm takes steps to allow its employees to become more mobile.
According to V3.co.uk, the water company is changing its IT infrastructure, with desktop virtualisation among the measures.
Severn Trent Water is hoping to reduce costs as well as its carbon footprint and chief information officer Myron Hrycyk noted that customer service is also set to improve.
"The project is part of a wider initiative to create a more dynamic organisation and enhance our ability to attract talented staff," he was quoted as saying.
Earlier this week, the Federation of Small Businesses observed that remote access had helped British firms minimise the impact of snowfall in January.
National chairman John Wright explained that many people were unable to travel, but home working highlighted the resilience and resourcefulness of UK companies, many of which offered flexible hours.
