Small businesses in the UK have been told of the benefits they can enjoy if they switch to cloud computing and ditch older systems that are no longer at their best.

Phil Wainewright, UK vice-chairman at independent organisation EuroCloud, explained that improved efficiency is the major advantage of using the technology.

He said that many smaller firms think they are stuck with ageing solutions that are now costly to maintain.

The latest cloud computing systems do not require expensive running, as they automatically update themselves with functionality over time.

"So you avoid all of the technology headaches of having to look after your own servers and software and do all the upgrading yourself," Mr Wainewright stated.

A report by accounting firm KPMG International, documented by the Wall Street Journal, recently suggested that cloud computing is changing the way businesses work, as it once was viewed simply as a cost-cutting measure but now offers significantly more.
