There are many opportunities in the market for small companies to switch some of their staff to home working, rather than being permanently office-based.
The subject of flexible working is a significant one in the UK at the moment, with the practice said to be vital to the smooth running of next year's Olympic Games.
Last month, the Daily Mail revealed that Transport for London chiefs are keen to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt the process during the sporting event in London.
Indeed, it is believed that as many as a third of all employees will need to take up home working for the duration of the Games.
Now, the Globe and Mail technology reporter Omar El Akkad has suggested that while many large companies offer the programme, fewer small firms do so.
This is despite there being several advantages to home working, such as increased staff happiness and productivity, Mr El Akkad noted.
