Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system implementations are becoming commonplace in less-sizable companies, it has been suggested.
According to an article on SmartData Collective, purchasing patterns of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in this area are exhibiting a marked difference to that shown in larger organisations.
It stated: "[SMEs are] currently investing in full systems to replace disparate and incomplete systems."
In comparison, multinational corporations are more interested in maintaining their core ERP platforms, while exploring methods of accessorising with vertical applications, social collaboration tools and customer relationship management programs, the information source stated.
However, it was noted that smaller firms will also begin to explore the possibilities of social networking options over the coming years.
This is due to the fact that companies are increasingly looking to maximise their capabilities regarding sharing work between departments and other employees, it explained.
Writing for IndustryWeek in December, Drew Gude of Microsoft predicted that social collaboration will become a much larger part of ERP systems of the future.
