Remote access software is vital for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to boost the productivity of their staff members.
This is the opinion of Paul Mah, technology insight writer at IT Business Edge, who quoted a recent study by collaboration firm oneDrum that showed 61 per cent of employees in organisations of this size do not work from home, despite the majority being allowed to.
The statistics found that one of the key reasons for low workforce mobility was an inability to access important documents away from the office.
Mr Mah said: "Not having the necessary technology to support remote work is the most common barrier for [SMEs]."
According to the expert, personnel opinion is often unanimous, with many claiming their performance is boosted by having more flexibility in this area.
"Moving forward, my suggestion for [SMEs] is simple: Do a gradual move toward teleworking," he added.
Earlier this month, real estate company CB Richard Ellis predicted that millions of pounds was saved by enterprises that had efficient workforce mobility during the recent bad weather conditions.
