As virtualisation becomes more prevalent further attention should be focused on the software elements of such platforms, one expert has suggested.

Writing for the Register, Freeform Dynamic’s Jon Collins said that virtualisation is now becoming more established and moving into the applications world.

"Kicking off with the development environment, client-facing technologies such as virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and application virtualisation deserve more than a cursory glance," he said.

According to Mr Collins, a "major challenge" experienced by many IT users is the ability to keep a number of different tools and softwares running simultaneously.

However, applications virtualisation has been created to solve this problem and VDI is able to allow multiple desktop configurations to be introduced and maintained efficiently and effectively, he added.

In recent news, Calvin Hsu referred to desktop virtualisation as a "powerful technology" that can, when used properly, enable businesses to become much more flexible by delivering services to a range of devices.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19554213-ADNFCR
