Firms that are looking to implement a secure remote access infrastructure will find that an SSL-encrypted virtual private network (VPN) can provide a number of benefits.
In an interview with Sue Marquette Poremba of IT Business Edge, Patrick Graf, director of sales and support at software firm HOB, stated that SSL VPN systems are preferable to the older IPSec-encrypted models.
He explained that SSL does not require pre-installation of a software client on individual PCs and can be easily deployed on any computer with a web browser.
Mr Graf stated that the flexibility offered by an SSL VPN means it has become the standard choice among companies, particularly those using a wide range of devices, including Macs and smartphones.
"The more heterogeneous the client environment is, the more an SSL VPN solution would be the appropriate technology," he explained.
Last month, UK employment relations body Acas advised more companies to utilise remote access technology to enable home working, which it states can help employees to become more productive.
