Storage virtualisation ‘reduces datacentre complexity’

Storage virtualisation can bring a number of benefits to companies who chose to adopt the software, new research has revealed.

Carried out by Aberdeen, the study found the main advantages investment in the technology can bring, Virtual Strategy Magazine reports.

It showed five out of the top six responses identified reduction in the complexity of the datacentre as the key benefit.

According to the publication: "Storage virtualisation allows disparate storage capacity to be managed as part of a unified whole."

Other strong recommendations for the virtual platforms are new server deployment time reduction and data back-up and recovery performance, the report found.

The source added a significant advantage is a lessening of the number of devices and simplified management of the ones that remain.

Writing recently for PC World, Paul Venezia observed virtualisation can greatly improve computing environments, especially in terms of operational costs reduction and a decreased need for power and cooling requirements.
