Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should not forget the business side of virtualisation when implementing the technology, an industry expert has announced.
Writing for Virtualisation Review, Rick Vanover has remarked that consumers need to look beyond the "cool factor" of the platforms when getting to grips with their intricacies.
He commented that it is essential for individuals to be able to communicate a cast model and a return-on-investment analysis for their technology direction.
To deliver such end-products to management and external clients, he added, is a "critical gauge" to the success of the software.
He noted that virtualisation was one of the first such products to make these tasks "quite easy".
Mr Vanover advised that any firms new to such programmes need to adequately plan for capacity when they consider switching to a consolidated infrastructure.
Earlier in the month, Joab Jackson - writing for CIO - stated that virtualisation products provided by VMware and Citrix are more commonly used than any other vendor’s goods.
