The Co-operative group chooses Citrix XenDesktop

8th July

Category: Virtualisation

Citrix XenDesktop has been selected as the virtualisation software of choice by The Co-operative Group.

The deployment is expected to save the company in excess of £1 million every year, as well as enabling flexible working and decreased environmental impact.

It will lay the foundations for the enterprise’s plans to move to a new state-of-the-art building in 2012, which will house around 3,500 employees and maintain an environmentally-friendly ethos.

The decision was taken to accommodate the group’s 18,000 desktops, 3,500 laptop users and a predicted 3,000 home workers by the end of the year.

David Murrell, head of servers, storage and desktops at The Co-operative Group, noted: "Our colleagues’ needs are becoming more sophisticated and our IT delivery and management increasingly needs more flexibility to tweak and personalise the desktop experience."

PCMag recently observed firms that run Citrix XenDesktop have the capability to turn their iPads into a full virtualised desktop.
