Single instance installations of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are becoming harder to justify in the wake of constantly fluctuating business needs.
This is the opinion of industry specialist Ray Wang, who noted in a blog post for Software Insider that two-tier application implementations are becoming more popular with organisations.
He remarked: "Improved integration, web services and SaaS deployments have now improved the success rates and [return on investment] for two-tier ERP apps strategies."
According to Mr Wang, the main driver behind this approach is the requirement for industry-specific, purpose-built solutions.
Quoting recent research from Software Insider, he added that 89.61 per cent of IT leaders cited this reason for why they decided to go for a two-tier ERP system.
Writing for CIO recently, Steve Holt of Accuride noted that the benefits of this method of deployment included ‘out-of-the-box’ advantages, with this kind of platform fitting into existing business models particularly well.
