Desktop virtualisation has helped the University of Sydney in Australia to overhaul the way its IT systems are run and improve its performance.

According to the Australian, the education facility implemented the technology recently in a bid to enhance the service it is able to provide for students.

Approximately 50,000 people are studying at the centre, while it employs roughly 7,600 staff, so high-quality software was considered a must – and this came in the form of Citrix products, which were recommended by an analyst firm.

The university is made up of 16 different faculties that are each said to have had various requirements from desktop virtualisation.

"Being in a position where someone doesn't have to go from one end of the campus to the other because they want to use a different piece of software is a benefit," support services manager Nick Gilbert told the newspaper.

Virtualisation software provider VMware recently described innovation as the key to progress within the industry.ADNFCR-2732-ID-800693903-ADNFCR
