Companies that need to update their accounting software have been advised to make a priority of doing so as the new year begins.
Business commentator Lindsay Holloway told the Los Angeles Examiner that bringing a working environment "up to technological par" is likely to be a new year resolution that delivers value for money.
She highlighted accounting software and other corporate IT products as a key area to upgrade as managers look to find the best way of utilising their limited budgets.
"Software is almost always something that can use an update, with all the fixes and new versions developers are constantly releasing," Ms Holloway said.
The expert also recommended that firms purchase new monitors, printers and copiers, while highlighting the potential usefulness of netbooks and telecommuting software in enabling remote access working.
Last month, the Forum of Private Businesses reminded firms that accounting software may need to be updated to reflect the rise in the VAT rate, which comes into effect today (January 4th 2011).
