A number of departments within the US government have been kitted out with the latest VMware virtualisation technology, the software provider has revealed.
VMware View has been supplied in order to ease the process of starting to use mobile and cloud computing products, which are part of a growing move towards desktop virtualisation.
The Department of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy and the Agency of the US Department of Defense are among the first to benefit from the VMware equipment.
Commenting on the benefits of using VMware View, David Henderson, project systems architect supporting the defense agency, said it helps to "centralise software management, reduce hardware support and speed application deployment".
This means that wherever in the world a government official logs on, "he or she gains fast, secure access to a common set of critical resources".
Another of the provider's recent releases – vSphere 5 – was praised last week by Forbes, which said it had put VMware two steps ahead of its rivals.
