A hotel company in the US has revealed that it will use home working to further expand its operations and staff.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide is based in Fall River, Massachusetts, where it has an office that is home to 218 workers, reported the Herald News.

It also has plans to add further staff once it takes control of a 5,000 sq ft site that adjoins its existing base.

But in the immediate future its attention is on home working, with some 120 positions due to be created before Christmas, according to director of the President Avenue facility Karl Staatz.

He stated: "We send you home with a PC. Your workspace is your own. You don't have to commute – that's good in New England winters."

Home working can also be beneficial to the company, as it is able to grow without having to purchase more office space for new employees.

Kim McGuinness, who runs Network Central, told the Sydney Morning Herald recently that the key to successful home working is adequate planning.
