A switch to virtualisation can bring many financial and efficiency gains for organisations, a new study has found.
The CDW 2010 Government Virtualisation Report revealed the technology is being broadly adopted by public sector bodies - especially in the US, InformationWeek reports.
According to the findings, 77 per cent of such agencies are implementing at least one form of virtualisation.
Of such, 89 per cent stated they were seeing clear benefits after having done so.
The investigation was based on a survey in which 600 IT managers in public service departments were interviewed.
In addition, a significant number of respondents identified security as one of the key benefits a switch to virtual platforms - such as Citrix XenServer - can bring.
Forrester Research recently discovered via its Strategies to Improve IT Efficiencies in 2010 study that virtualisation is seen by many enterprises as the most effective method to boost IT services.
