Companies hoping to improve their green credentials might want to consider investing in virtualisation software.
It has emerged a financial institute has been able to significantly reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by implementing the technology, Heather Clancy reports for ZDNet.
Prior to introducing a number of virtualisation initiatives in 2009, the servers used by Wells Fargo were outputting 10,055 metric tonnes of such emissions each year, the journalist noted.
This amount was slashed following the installations to 628 metric tonnes and Ms Clancy observed the firm now has more than 10,000 virtual devices in operation.
Jim Borendame, head of enterprise hosting services at the business, remarked it has the fastest rate of growth among financial institutions in virtualisation.
"It is a rate of change that we are maximising in terms of energy efficiency," he added.
CPA Technology Advisor columnist Randy Johnston recently highlighted virtualisation as one of the best ways a company can streamline its business processes.
