Virtualisation can bring a firm numerous security benefits should it choose to implement the software, it has been suggested.
In an article for InfoSecurity Network, Jon Collins of Freeform Dynamics explained virtual technology can ensure extra security measures that physical systems cannot.
The industry expert observed: "Not least that, as far as data is concerned, it adds an additional layer which can itself be secured."
He noted this can help reduce the likelihood of data leaks or accidental prying.
A degree of resilience is also assured through virtualisation, Mr Collins remarked.
The specialist explained virtual environments can be used to incorporate fail-safe options, meaning virtual machines can be started up elsewhere if they were to go down.
He added there is less chance of other machines being affected if another becomes compromised.
In a recent article for the Star Advertiser, John Agsalud described virtualisation as one of the cornerstones of any serious IT strategy.
