Introducing virtualisation systems into a company’s IT environment can make them more secure, it has been suggested.
Writing for the Register, Martin Atherton of Freeform Dynamics noted that there are several areas where this kind of technology can help in this manner.
Firstly, from an operational standpoint virtualisation can boost an organisation’s patching capabilities, he explained, with centralised procedures on virtual machines being faster and more efficient.
"A degree of protection is also afforded to portable devices," Mr Atherton added. "One of the options for protecting company data on ‘work and home’ kit is to separate the two using virtualisation technology."
According to Mr Atherton, desktop technology can be similarly secured with software of this type, as centrally managing software updates may ease the process of replacing corrupt files.
Also contributing to the Register recently, Tony Lock of Freeform Dynamics commented that virtualisation is currently attracting wide interest from the IT industry because of its flexibility.
