Companies that virtualise their servers could benefit from improvement in their service levels, it has been claimed.
Writing for the Register, Martin Atherton of Freeform Dynamics said that as more and more firms begin to take up the technology, it is possible to see how this is being played out.
Commenting on what changes virtualisation can bring to a company once it has been installed, he noted that there are a number of "major differences from IT’s point of view".
"IT becomes able (in principle) to effect changes almost instantly compared to the pre-virtualisation era," Mr Atherton added.
According to the expert, this means that enterprises can react to new requirements within hours or minutes, compared with weeks.
Not only this, purchasing, deployment and maintenance of such systems is equally fast in comparison to traditional server hardware, he added.
Earlier this month, industry specialist Neil Barton claimed that server virtualisation is to become increasingly popular in 2010, as businesses look to streamline their business operations.
