Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may want to turn to virtualisation as a means of streamlining their operations, it has been suggested.
The CPA Technology Advisor columnist Randy Johnston noted a switch to virtual software, such as Citrix XenServer, would enable SMEs to downsize the number of hardware servers they require.
Mr Johnston observed firms could replace five to eight such machines with just one or two, without the need to install everything on a single server.
This can protect various applications rather than "mixing them all together in one or two servers or buying six to nine servers," he explained.
The industry figure added virtualising a business can save both time and money, enable applications to run at a much more effective speed and provide an extra secure safety net in a continuity or disaster recovery situation.
Kenneth Hess, writing for Server Watch, recently stated deployment efforts can be simplified and quickened through virtualisation.
