Virtualisation is helping drive increased IT spending among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), according to new research.
The study, carried out by SpiceWorks and focusing on technology purchasing, usage and staffing trends among businesses of this scale, revealed computing budget plans for SMEs in the second half of 2010 are up four per cent.
Moreover, the investigation found financial confidence is highest among smaller organisations, with their priority spending areas centring on virtualisation and software that can optimise existing resources.
The survey included more than 3,000 IT professionals and was compiled across 117 countries between July and August 2010.
It showed the average annual technology budget for SMEs is $121,770 (£77,970), which is an increase from the $117,200 (£75,025) recorded in the first half of 2010.
The burgeoning popularity of virtualisation software across the globe was recently evidenced when Dino Soepono, Asia-Pacific regional manager at Citrix, told Delimiter the technology is becoming increasingly favoured by enterprises in Australia.
