Using server virtualisation technology could help fuel growth among small businesses, an expert has suggested.

According to Alex Evans, editorial director and co-chair of the National Business Awards, smaller ventures have become savvier when it comes to using digital technology.

This, he stated, is apparent in the number of companies making use of virtual solutions.

Mr Evans said this means many are enjoying a faster rate of growth than they would have done using traditional methods.

He noted that with virtualisation technology in place, a small business could, for example, have some employees based in Somerset, a customer service team located outside the UK and senior managers working in London.

"It's all being held together by these virtual solutions," Mr Evans observed.

He added that this is encouraging growth among "savvy, more agile" businesses.

Mr Evans was speaking shortly after Bill Bradford of SUNHELP.org told SearchDataCenter.com that server virtualisation can make the process of disaster recovery much simpler.
