Virtualisation ‘good for SMEs’

Less-sizable companies that deploy virtualisation platforms can boost their performance in a number of different ways, it has been suggested.

Writing for United Business Media, Fredric Paul stated that there has been a rise in interest from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to use the technology.

Quoting a survey from VMware that found 72 per cent of these businesses chose virtualisation for increased server utilisation, Mr Paul noted that the best time for these firms to upgrade is when they are already looking to purchase new hardware.

"There are plenty of very real benefits for SME virtualisation," he remarked, but added that it does matter how small a company is.

Tiny organisations were advised that some of the energy and space savings often linked to virtualisation may not be as applicable to their procedures.

Writing for IT Pro Portal earlier this month, technology journalist Steve Gold praised virtualisation for its ability to provide a swift return on investment.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19528161-ADNFCR
