Virtualisation ‘greatly improves’ computing environments

Category: Virtualisation

Virtualisation can be a beneficial option for enterprises of all sizes, it has been suggested.

Writing for PC World, Paul Venezia noted the software - such as Citrix XenApp - has numerous advantages, especially in terms of operational costs reduction.

The industry commentator stated: "If there’s one technology that can greatly improve computing environments of any size, it’s virtualisation."

Whether a company is a two-server or a 2,000-server shop, gains can be made by using a single physical machine to run many virtual others, he remarked.

Mr Venezia observed running costs can be slashed as power and cooling requirements are cut, while greatly reduced expansion also has an effect.

He added the method is ideal as an enterprise needs only to add a new virtual server rather than buy extra hardware to accommodate a new business application.

Heather Clancy, reporting for ZDNet, recently cited environmental benefits as another key draw for implementing virtual software.
