Virtualisation ‘has become a revolutionary solution’

Server virtualisation has proven itself very effective at enhancing physical server utilisation, it has been suggested.

TMCnet.com contributor Graham Smith noted virtual software, such as Citrix XenApp, is also a very cost-effective method of implementing and ensuring disaster recovery.

The expert observed the technology has fuelled innovation by enabling computer resources to become "flexible and moveable".

Mr Smith explained that when pressure on the physical servers escalates, "virtual machines can be migrated to available servers to ensure that service level agreements and response times are met".

If physical servers were to fail, he observed, virtual applications can be restarted on new hardware in a very short space of time - which is why so many firms have turned to virtual platforms in an effort to maximise resources.

Alexander Wolfe, writing for Information Week, recently stated deployment of virtual products has become the number one goal for modern companies hoping to make the most out of available resources.
