Virtualisation ‘helps SMEs with administration and backup’

Category: Virtualisation

Virtualisation can boost small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs’) ability to perform administration and backup processes, new research has suggested.

A study by industry giant VMware found that 21 per cent of less-sizable firms have lost critical data within the last two years, while one in three have experienced a systems outage.

According to VMware, organisations that have virtualisation can reduce the risks of such occurrences, with 67 per cent reporting a significant improvement in their data protection and backup functions.

The results also showed that 71 per cent believed this form of technology had drastically improved their ability to perform routine administration tasks efficiently.

"Implementing virtualisation can greatly improve disaster preparedness and recovery, so businesses can more easily meet customer demands and maintain their business operations," said Joe Andrews, group manager of product marketing at VMware.

Writing for the Register last month, Jon Collins of Freeform Dynamics stated that SMEs may have a greater need for virtualisation as it is more easily implemented into their environment.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19527284-ADNFCR
