Virtualisation offers companies an effective way to boost their profit levels by providing a good return on investment (ROI) for storage functions.

This is the opinion of Dale Vile of Freeform Dynamics, who stated in an article for Mainstreammatters that firms should avoid the temptation to simply buy more space.

"If you are running out of disk space in your IT infrastructure then the obvious thing to do is buy more storage, right?" he asked, adding: "Well, not necessarily."

According to Mr Vile, virtualisation helps organisations free up their architecture by safe deletion processes, archiving and the effective use of orphaned storage that may not have previously been utilised.

The initial outlay may be a bit more pricey, he added, but the hardware savings, reduced administration expenses and easy access to vital business information more than make up for this.

Writing for Computerworld, Beth Schultz claimed today (February 8th) that virtualisation abilities are the top recession-proof IT skill in the market at the moment.
