The virtualisation security market has witnessed tremendous growth in the first quarter of 2010, it has been revealed.
New figures from Infonetics Research have shown the sector is up 119 per cent year-over-year in the first three months of 2010.
Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at the organisation, said the virtual security appliance market is primed for a significant increase over the next five years.
"The drivers for this market are strong and include
the rapid adoption of server virtualisation
and the availability of purpose-built solutions for securing virtualised server environments," the industry expert explained.
From the statistics, which showed the virtual security appliance market to stand at $203.8 million (£137.4 million), analysts predicted the industry will swell nearly eight-fold and reach close to $1.6 billion (£1.08 billion) by 2014.
A recent study from AMI Partners revealed the number of US companies considering a switch to virtualisation had escalated from 46 to 75 per cent.
