One of the advantages of purchasing virtual software is that the technology is simplifying IT for everybody, it has been claimed.
Writing for TMCnet.com, Alan Murphy suggested virtualisation, which can be achieved through products such as Citrix XenServer, has become so prevalent in the computing sector because it "removes the barrier to entry for much of IT".
The industry figure noted the ease of access and deployment of virtual appliances is "turning regular people into IT administrators".
Mr Murphy explained the software is allowing groups throughout the enterprise to use the same dedicated hardware that has been deployed in production in their own micro development and testing environments.
By employing virtual platforms throughout the entire application lifestyle, virtualisation is bringing IT "to the masses", he added.
Jim Metzler and Steve Taylor recently noted on Network World that virtualisation has emerged as one of the main talking points in the computing sector in recent years.
