Virtualisation platforms may be used to boost the performance of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in the future.
This is the opinion of Matt Prigge, writing for Infoworld, who noted that server virtualisation has "changed the way IT works" and so professionals will be looking for more ways to utilise the technology.
He went on to say that virtual appliances could lead the way for virtualisation to be deployed in the ERP world.
"Virtual appliances have not yet penetrated the enterprise application sector. Given the predominance of virtualisation in the datacentre today, I don’t see how this trend can continue," Mr Prigge remarked.
Platforms such as these have done wonders for server and storage functions, he added, but there is to be an increasing trend towards influencing software and operating systems as the technology advances.
Writing for the Register earlier this month, Tony Lock of Freeform Dynamics stated that virtualisation is attracting huge interest from a range of firms in the business sector because of its ability to consolidate servers.
