Virtualisation ‘vital for efficient resource utilisation’

29th December

Category: Virtualisation

Virtualisation can help organisations to boost the performance of their internal networks and storage capabilities, it has been suggested.

According to an article on the iGovernment website, this kind of technology has been "hyped as a panacea" for server problems and is becoming immensely popular.

It noted: "Virtualisation helps in provisioning of new machines dynamically out of the same IT infrastructure through the means of software portioning."

This means servers can be consolidated to ensure energy savings are maximised, the feature added, while storage can similarly be virtualised, making it "very critical" for resource utilisation efficiency.

Heads of IT departments were also advised to approach this kind of platform from a holistic scale, instead of looking at it as a "piecemeal technology".

Simon Yates, writing for ComputerworldUK recently, stated that 2010 is going to be a "critical" year for virtualisation, with many firms looking to put the recession behind them and explore the benefits of such software.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19532070-ADNFCR
