Virtualisation “works like magic”

Virtualisation may be tricky to understand, but its benefits are huge, one expert has claimed.

Shawn Morel, Hands On VMware engineer, told Reg Hardware that while many business professionals are unaware of how useful the technology is, they can immediately see results.

"It’s all very complicated and it all sort of works like magic," he remarked.

According to Mr Morel, the main positives of introducing a virtualisation platform are boosting disaster recovery and fault tolerance functions.

Firms can consolidate their servers and run multiple applications, he added, which may have previously been impossible.

There are also a number of gains for desktop users, the specialist claimed, as problems that have an impact on virtual machines will not have a knock-on effect for host systems.

Martin Atherton of Freeform Dynamics recently stated in an article for the Register that virtualisation can lead to a rise in a company’s performance through improved service levels.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19567294-ADNFCR
