Products provided by VMware and Citrix are more commonly used than any other vendor’s goods, it has been suggested.
Writing for CIO, Joab Jackson stated that currently VMware has a lead in the market, but Citrix is close on its heels.
According to the industry commentator, VMware supplies 75 per cent of today’s virtualisation deployments, but Citrix does have the advantage when it comes to desktop applications.
"For [chief information officers], a chat with Citrix can be worthwhile, especially for companies making investments in application or desktop virtualisation," he remarked.
However, Mr Jackson acknowledged that VMware is more established in regards to server implementations of this form of technology.
Microsoft is also a dominant player, he added, with its Hyper-V platform proving very popular.
Last month, David Storm wrote in an article for Virtualisation Review that VMware and Citrix will concentrate more strongly on application functions in their products this year.
