Server virtualisation testing could soon become much easier for business leaders if VMware decides to relaunch a former product.

The technology manufacturer has confirmed it is looking into bringing back its popular VMware Technology Network (VMTN), reported CRN.

Offered on a subscription basis, the solution allowed experts to run various programs and systems on a desktop computer rather than through an entire data centre.

This made it much simpler to check the operational effectiveness of the technology in question and iron out any potential problems.

A number of developers have taken to the internet to urge Steve Herrod, chief technology officer at VMware, to put VMTN back on the market.

As a result, Duncan Epping, principal architect in the company's technical marketing group, wrote in his blog that VMware will investigate the option of reviving it.

At the VMworld conference in Copenhagen last month, the virtualisation specialist confirmed it will continue to base its solutions in the cloud.
